SDMA UVAC‑250 medical air disinfection device

The SDMA UVAC-250 is a closed-type medical device that disinfects indoor air by physical means, with no chemicals and no ozone emission. It is designed to run while people are in the room, around the clock if needed.

How it works

A fan draws air into the stainless steel housing, where germicidal UV-C lamps with a reflector (wavelength 253.7 nm) destroy the DNA and RNA of micro-organisms and leave them unable to reproduce; the germicidal effect reaches 99%. The radiation does not leave the housing, and the disinfected air returns to the room.

Benefits

• Safe to run with people present. The device is closed-type and produces no ozone, so the room does not have to be cleared while it disinfects.
• No chemicals. UV-C disinfection leaves no residue and does not change the composition of the air. It removes the extra work and the staff exposure that come with disinfectants.

• Flexible mounting. Wall, ceiling, suspended or straight onto any flat surface: installation is quick and the disinfection cycle starts immediately.
• Built to last. The stainless steel housing resists corrosion and UV-C radiation and is designed for decades of use.

Where it is used

• enclosed spaces, to prevent the spread of airborne infectious diseases;
• rooms with a high microbial load, to reduce the risk of infection among medical staff;
• medical and preventive care facilities, nursing homes, kindergartens and schools;
• shops, waiting rooms and other crowded places, production and storage facilities, food industry premises.

Registration and patent

The device is entered in the State Register of Medical Devices of the Republic of Moldova under no. DM000367363 of 18 August 2022 and protected by invention patent MD no. 1650 Y of 30 November 2022 (AGEPI). Its Global Medical Device Nomenclature (GMDN) code is 65418 (Air Disinfection System SDMA UVAC-250 Non-Ozone), and it is manufactured in accordance with European directives and ISO standards.

Where it is already in use

SDMA UVAC devices are installed in the office of the President of the Republic of Moldova and in the Administration of the President of the Republic of Moldova.

The devices were tested in medical institutions of the Ministry of Health:

• Timofei Moșneaga Republican Clinical Hospital – treatment room, admissions and intensive care, June to July 2023
• Sfânta Treime Municipal Clinical Hospital – nephrology and dialysis, and intensive care, May to June 2023
• Rîșcani District Hospital – operating theatres, wound-dressing rooms, intensive care and the maternity ward, October to November 2022

Analysis of the microbiological samples, confirmed by the reports and records of the hospitals’ laboratories, showed UV-C radiation to be highly effective at disinfecting the air of enclosed clinical spaces.
